The Bernhard R. Works, Frederick A. Buerki Scenic Technology Award celebrates an exceptional technician who is a current graduate student or a recent graduate (within the past two years).

Established in 1998 by Bernhard R. Works to honor the work of Frederick A. Buerki, whose professional theatrical career spanned more than eight decades. His enthusiasm and craftsmanship will be continued through the Golden Hammer Award.

“I’m honored to receive this award, particularly because of the prestige of previous winners. I saw Yaro Yarashevich win this honor my first year of Grad School and I thought ‘How do you earn that?’ After working with them, as their assistant, I learned that it’s a lot of hard work, sweating out new and different technical designs, making drawings for everything before it hits the floor, positive communication, consistency, some crying, filling every non-crying moment with efficient task completion, resting at least one day a week and documenting everything. To now be receiving this award is exhilarating.”
